Cory and I first met in 2014 through mutual friends. He asked me to make a snow angel with him, and I have been hooked on him since! Over the years, we have talked often about settling onto rural land where we could live out all of our homesteading dreams. A place where we could raise animals, have an apiary to keep honeybees, grow a large bountiful garden, and hand make all sorts of different things. In June 2017, we moved into our first home and this little hobby farm is what inspired me to create 'Hay Creek Farm'.
Currently, we live on a 10 acre,
97-year-old Swedish homestead with our little farmhand pug Roxy.
We have 14 chickens we raised, and 2 honeybee hives we were able to purchase from local beekeepers who split some of their own hives.
Owner, Writer, Maker
My name is Rachel. I was born raised in the woods of Minnesota. Growing up in these woods instilled my love for the natural world. Nature is the one constant inspiration in life. And you may see that through most of my blog posts and my handmade pieces.
When I am not working my 9-5 job, or keeping up on homesteading duties, you can find me outside photographing nature, bird watching, hiking the local trails, gardening, hanging with our chickens, or lounging in my favorite spot by the bluebird house. I also love reading, drawing, baking, making my own herbal beauty products, as well as working on all of my fiber and textile projects.
Home life is truly the best life, but I do occasionally like to get out of town and head up to the North Shore to go hiking and spend time with my parents on their land. Hiking is one of my absolute favorite hobbies. Someday, I would like to accomplish hiking the Superior Hiking Trail on the north shore, and check off all of the Minnesota State Park hiking club trails.
